Services We Provide
First, what services we do not provide. We are not a law firm. We do not practice law. We do not give legal advice. We do not provide legal representation. Please do not interpret anything you read or see on this site in any way to be legal advice or legal representation.
What we will do is try to provide you with information that is available elsewhere but sometimes difficult to find. We also provide a forum for you to get help from other members who are willing to share their knowledge and their experiences with you. We can help you understand what the law says and the way the law is applied (because yes, they are different). We can help you understand court procedure and document preparation. We can give you suggestions about case preparation and places to look for more information about laws and cases.
At times, an experienced member may help out an inexperienced member by drafting sample documents for them. These are sent by email without identifying the author. The last thing we want is for a member to be prosecuted for "practicing law without a license." We don't practice law but we do sometimes provide examples of what we would file in a case if we were the party involved. The receiving member has a choice of using all or any part of the sample prepared for them, but does so with the understanding that no one at the WPSLA is giving any legal advice or drafting anyone's documents for them. We are simply showing them what we would file if we were involved in the case.
Additional services are available to those members known to us, services such as:
A Mentoring Program
where an experienced member will guide a new member through their first case.
A Member Exchange of Services Program
where members will serve legal process (Summons and Complaint) for other members, saving them the expense and hassle
of using the County Sheriff or expensive private service agencies.
A Brief Bank
A place where legal memorandum (briefs) written by members are posted and available for use by other members. When you need
help writing a brief you might find one here on the same or similar topic that will be helpful and many case citations already researched.
